Politech is the oldest Internet resource devoted to politics and technology. Launched in 1994 by Declan McCullagh, the mailing list has chronicled the growing intersection of law, culture, technology, and politics. Since 2000, so has the Politech web site.
The IRS and its computers: a 20 year upgrade, and still counting
I edited a story earlier today that's worth sharing as the U.S. income
tax deadline nears. It describes how the IRS has been trying to upgrade
its computers for 20 years, has spent $5 billion, and still pays people
to keystroke paper tax returns by hand:
