How ridiculous that the FBI, the body in charge of investigation at the federal level, has to stoop to this level!! They are given millions, if not billions, of taxpayer dollars to use the latest techology to pursue investigations. But if their 'investigations' consist of the pointless and impossible -- ie. demanding the IP address of the person who posted this 'threat', I begin to question not only the efficacy of their methods, but the very existence of the FBI itself. What use is such a body in a democracy? Why does the chief investigative body of the US need to go after the Independent Media Center, a collective whose role is to provide a place for _all_ to feel free to express their opinions without fear of censorship? Why does this state feel _threatened_ by the free and open exchange of ideas and opinions? What the Independent Media Centers offer is a space where _everyone_, even kooks like the guy who posted this thing, can have a space to express how they feel. What the Independent Media Center provides is a space for open dialogue, the possibility for everyone to participate in freedom of speech. This is at the heart of democracy. What the FBI represents, through their recent actions and through the makeup of the institution itself, shrouded in secrecy and completely unaccountable to the people, is anti-democratic at best. Some would even say that these blatant attacks on free speech are far more representative of a fascist state than of a democratic one. Will we hold on to our democracy? Will we take on the FBI in their attacks on our hard-earned freedom of speech? Or will we stand back and allow the slippery slope toward fascism in this country to continue? It is, after all, up to us to decide.

I had the good fortune to view a recent documentary on the 1972 Berlin Olympics sometime during this latest rebellion. It made me realize how unfocused our elected officials are. On a good day, they might hand us over Officer Roach. I'm not sure I want him. Berlin learned that there's more to achieving respect than putting on a happy face. Here in Cincinnati, nobody is smiling. I like it that way. Better to express the disenchantment I feel, and that of the people who will participate in the next wave of rebellion. To hell with tourism! No justice, no peace!
