technology. Launched in 1994 by Declan
McCullagh, the mailing list has chronicled the growing
intersection of culture, technology, politics, and law. Since
2000, so has the Politech web site.

Monday, six hours before the measure
would have taken effect.
Saying the Child Online Protection Act
was a well-intentioned attempt to
protect children but that it went too far,
US District Judge Lowell A. Reed Jr.
barred the federal government from
enforcing it.
