Politech is the oldest Internet resource devoted to politics and
technology. Launched in 1994 by Declan
McCullagh, the mailing list has chronicled the growing
intersection of culture, technology, politics, and law. Since
2000, so has the Politech web site.

Subject: SpamCop Sends (sells?) User Reports to Cyveillance
This is the first post to a thread in USENET's infamous NANAE. Apparently,
paying customers of SpamCop can opt-out permanently from sending these
reports, freebie customers can do so on a message-by-message basis (I did
NOT verify the former myself, since I do not use the SpamCop service for
fundamental reason that their BL is so broken as to have listed several
legitimate, non-spammed email lists, the names of which come to mind at
present ;-> )

Subject: Has SpamCop Sold Its Soul To Cyveillance?

SpamCop has started sending copies of all of its reports by default to
Cyveillance. Paying members are now able to opt out after many complaints
were made. Purportedly, Cyveillance will use the reports to check for
copyright infringement for its clients. Cyveillance has clearly stated that
it mines web sites for e-mail addresses to also sell to its clients.
Cyveillance is paying for the service. Has Julian sold his soul to the Devil?

John Phillips
